This song is a slow but deep burn. It is so good and sounds fantastic but it isn’t grandiose in its sound and lyrics, it just builds up and creeps up on you. Almost like Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York there’s this gusto or spirit built up in the narrative that talks about surmounting odds and it is something that is a very relatable theme in art.

I have lost a hero
I have lost a friend
But for you, darling
I’d do it all again

The odds that Franky and St. Vincent are singing about are definitely different but the feeling in the message is very similar.
