I cam here for the Erma Franklin cover and stayed because this song is fuckin’ fantastic. It still carries a lot of the soul and feeling that was in the original but it adds an edginess to it. Vocally, Joshua Ostrander’s raspy, harsh style is a little reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. That is seemingly where a good amount of the aforementioned soul comes from.
The layering of the vocals during the latter part of the song is really fantastic, too. In, what is a love song, it adds that hint of desperation and yearning which brings a welcomed authenticity to the track.
